  1. admit

Agree is the most general term of this group, signifying to have like qualities, proportions, views, or inclinations, so as to be free from jar, conflict, or contradiction in a given relation. To concur is to agree in general; to coincide is to agree in every particular. Whether in application to persons or things, concur tends to expression in action more than coincide; we may either concur or coincide in an opinion, but concur in a decision; views coincide, causes concur. One accepts another's terms, complies with his wishes, admits his statement, approves his plan, conforms to his views of doctrine or duty, accedes or consents to his proposal. Accede expresses the more formal agreement, consent the more complete. To assent is an act of the understanding; to consent, of the will. We may concur or agree with others, either in opinion or decision. One may silently acquiesce in that which does not meet his views, but which he does not care to contest. He admits the charge brought, or the statement made, by another — admit always carrying a suggestion of reluctance. Assent is sometimes used for a mild form of consent, as if agreement in the opinion assured approval of the decision.

How to use admit in a sentence?

  1. Rafael Peretz:

I honor everyone as people. I admit that I, personally - I am a rabbi of Israel. Our Torah tells us other things. But that does not mean that I look about now and give them grades.

  2. Joan Didion:

It is impossible to think of Howard Hughes without seeing the apparently bottomless gulf between what we say we want and what we do want, between what we officially admire and secretly desire, between, in the largest sense, the people we marry and the people we love. In a nation which increasingly appears to prize social virtues, Howard Hughes remains not merely antisocial but grandly, brilliantly, surpassingly, asocial. He is the last private man, the dream we no longer admit.

  3. Marty Walsh:

I think it's important to kind of break that stigma and let people know that it's OK to admit that you're powerless over alcohol, that you're powerless over drugs and you can get help.

  4. Josh Hawley:

The reason we have runaway inflation is Joe Biden. The reason we have a shipping crisis, a supply chain crisis at this stage, is Joe Biden. So if he wants to assign blame, all he needs is a mirror, and he can look in it because he's the source of most of these problems and the solutions he's offering are either nonexistent or totally fake, if the president wants to be serious, he'll admit that his policies have been wrong, that his policies have been weak, that his policies have endangered this nation and the world, and he'll tell us how he's going to change course.

  5. William Forsyth:

At some point in time, just admit you screwed up, and take whatever steps you need to take to rectify it. Apologize for what happened, ensure to people that it won't happen again.
