How to use co-opt in a sentence?
We have to make it transparent what we use the data for and easy to opt out, until we are absolutely certain we can give people the right offer at the right time we should take a step back - otherwise people will get annoyed.
They don't understand why they are being saddled with a huge tax bill next year, they are worried about penalties and fees, they are concerned about how falling behind could impact their security clearance and their livelihood, and they want an opportunity to opt out.
We explain exactly why we are gathering information, how they might benefit from this, and we try to create a habit loop : What is in it for me ? What can I do about it ? What do I get out of it ? you either trust or you don’t trust your employer. And if you don’t trust your employer and you believe that such data will be used against you, you simply opt out. You don’t have to participate.
It doesn’t stop those topics from being addressed, but again when we talk sex education, when we talk parental notification, parents deserve the opportunity to make that decision to opt their students in to classroom discussion.
Normal people keep the world going, but those who dare to be different lead us into tomorrow. I’ve made my decision to opt in. See you in the fall.
