alleviate
Etymologically, to alleviate is to lift a burden toward oneself, and so lighten it for the bearer; to relieve is to lift it back from the bearer, nearly or quite away; to remove is to take it away altogether. Alleviate is thus less than relieve; relieve, ordinarily, less than remove. We alleviate, relieve or remove the trouble; we relieve, not alleviate, the sufferer. Assuage is, by derivation, to sweeten; mitigate, to make mild; moderate, to bring within measure; abate, to beat down, and so make less. We abate a fever; lessen anxiety; moderate passions or desires; lighten burdens; mitigate or alleviate pain; reduce inflammation; soften, assuage, or moderate grief; we lighten or mitigate punishments; we relieve any suffering of body or mind that admits of help, comfort, or remedy. Alleviate has been often confused with allay. Compare ALLAY.

How to use alleviate in a sentence?
From the outset of the pandemic, here in Charlotte, our company has been the leader in all things Covid testing, Covid vaccines, and antibody therapy, and the reason we've done that is to is to alleviate a lot of the pressure on the major healthcare systems where they're having to take care of people in ICU, and all the surgeries that are lined up and all that stuff.
Now I need to step up and fill that gap to alleviate these things from happening in the future, it's just a driving force for me to go harder and work harder out there to get people off the street who don't have the best intentions.
I think, no one ever says those things out loud, but it’s obvious based on like the amount of stories that we do. Like the fact that we have a segment called ‘The Good Stuff,’ which is a feel good thing, but it’s a dedicated moment at the end to like, almost like be the ice cream to alleviate everything you’ve been through, like something sweet to end it with, everything else is like doom and gloom.
The way we’ve done things before is like we’re looking to alleviate our colonial guilt, we go in and hand out stuff and [say] ‘You aren’t doing what we think you should be doing, so try this.’.
I am for creating real restrictions on the federal government's role in this so you can alleviate people's fears that you're going to have some kind of control by the federal government of content, of curriculum, or even standards, i'm against all that.
