'no-one applying' is a great antonym for 'candidate' because a candidate is a person and they are applying for a job or something and 'no-one applying' is about someone that is not applying for a job. if you just write something like not applying, that wouldn't make sense as it isn't talking about someone but about the applying part of the definition. that is my amazing reason as to why 'no-one applying' is a great antonym for 'candidate'.
