  1. discretization

to discretize is to break the continuity of a system so that what was previously continuous becomes presently discontinuous. this also means breaking the concrete relation among the parts of the system so that there is either no longer a relation or any relation that survives the process of discretization is transformed into an abstract form of relation to facilitate the modification; configuration or redefinition of the system using a set of parameters.

the best example of the antonym for discretization is in the field of mathematical sciences. mathematics is essentially taught in one of the two ways namely (1) continuos mathematics and (2) discrete mathematics. an example like f(x) known as f of x or integral of x is a case of continuous mathematics because the system is graphed on a continuous plane. the opposite of that is discrete mathematics wherein a system of sigma of x (as opposed to the integral of x) is used to discretize the system. engineers spend a lot of their training developing mastery of discrete mathematics because it has an application in solving real life problems like designing a cell phone; defence or medical system using hardware or software.
