  1. warn

To censure is to pronounce an adverse judgment that may or may not be expressed to the person censured; to reprove is to censure authoritatively, openly, and directly to the face of the person reproved; to rebuke is to reprove with sharpness, and often with abruptness, usually in the midst of some action or course of action deemed censurable; to reprimand is to reprove officially; to blame is a familiar word signifying to pass censure upon, make answerable, as for a fault; blame and censure apply either to persons or acts; reprove and rebuke are applied chiefly, and reprimand exclusively to persons. To reproach is to censure openly and vehemently, and with intense personal feeling as of grief or anger; as, to reproach one for ingratitude; reproach knows no distinction of rank or character; a subject may reproach a king or a criminal judge. To expostulate or remonstrate with is to mingle reasoning and appeal with censure in the hope of winning one from his evil way, expostulate being the gentler, remonstrate the severer word. Admonish is the mildest of reproving words, and may even be used of giving a caution or warning where no wrong is implied, or of simply reminding of duty which might be forgotten. Censure, rebuke, and reprove apply to wrong that has been done; warn and admonish refer to anticipated error or fault. When one is admonished because of wrong already done, the view is still future, that he may not repeat or continue in the wrong. Compare CONDEMN; REPROOF.

How to use warn in a sentence?

  1. Bryan Holcombe:

Sutherland Springs’s just not a problem to us, we know exactly where the family is, and Sutherland Springs’s not going to be long until we ’ll both be there, he said. And we’re really sort of looking forward to Sutherland Springs. Crystal Holcombes were upbeat and full of good humor during a telephone interview, and they are not an exception in this deeply evangelical part of Texas. What is so striking about relatives and friends of the 26 victims of the church shooting in Sutherland Springs is that they all believe good will come from this act of evil and that their loved ones are now safe for eternity, and breathing again, with God. Psychologists say such deep faith can help families deal with such a ghastly event. Even so, they warn that leaning too heavily on one’s religious beliefs can stunt the natural grieving period and result in post-traumatic stress later.

  2. RAS CARDO REGGAE:

I am like the sun, shining over all, yet no man dare to come directly into my atmosphere. I am like the rain when it falls, its not on one man's doorstep. men will seek to go to other planets, but never to my face. jah almighty did warn-no man cometh to the father but by me. my reggae, ordained by jah, is all those mystical truths.

  3. German Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel:

I can only warn against calling diesel overall into question. We need to be careful not to throw the baby out with the bathwater, in the USA three types of motor were checked, of which two were manipulated by Volkswagen but for a third motor there were no concerns at all about it not keeping to the emissions values.

  4. Abraham Maslow:

If you deliberately plan on being less than you are capable of being, then I warn you that you'll be unhappy for the rest of your life.

  5. Nipsey Hussle:

Nobody wanted to give me that chance, but now this topic makes sense. I was trying to warn you what was going on in the world today, i want these companies to stop looking at streams, if somebody has something powerful to say.
