This is hardly a big selloff but we are having trouble breaking through (to new highs on the S&P) because of a lack of consistently good earnings and economic data, one of the few positives is a weaker dollar but it is hard to see a reason for that to continue; rates are being lowered around the world and expected to rise here (in the United States), there's no clear path to a lower dollar.
When the Fed does finally move, you could see a bigger selloff in the credit products than in the Treasury market.
We haven't seen a sharp selloff as one might have expected and partly this is reflective of just how oversold levels are at the moment in the market and people were just looking for a bounce, but I do think as we slowly digest (the Chinese data), perhaps a bit of selling might come into the market in the afternoon.
There’s no doubt that China has some real issues in front of it and the devaluation of the yuan as well as the huge selloff in their markets spell trouble ahead, so I think it’s justified.
Usually the last couple of weeks of August are pretty quiet. This year, there's a lot of going on, the continuation of a selloff for all commodities is something that's also lingered on. It's a period of pain for a lot of the commodity industries and producers.
