How to use CTE in a sentence?
There's no road map. There's no support for this, there's no protocol when you're afflicted with CTE -- what it looks like and how to care for that person best.
It’s hard for a lot of people to accept it, now, I don’t accept CTE results. I don’t accept the brain damage that we’re finding. I don’t accept the fact that so many of these players can’t be diagnosed with CTE until it’s too late.
Among just those with CTE, that CTE-related outcomes were more severe, they were more likely to have dementia, and they were more likely to have advance neurodegeneration in their brain.
Most CTE sufferers have been found at autopsy to have tau, but also about 40 % have had amyloid as well. So they are showing both degeneration markers in the brain, most importantly, it's a distinct pattern that we haven't seen in any other condition -- not in Alzheimer's, not in other forms of dementia, and certainly not in normal controls. So it's not just what we're binding to, it's that this pattern appears to be distinct and it appears to be the areas that have been damaged in autopsy studies of sufferers with CTE.
With chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) in football players, we only have the end point, we don’t always have the history of how many concussions they had or any genetic predisposition, it’s certainly worrisome, and it’s certainly better to err on the side of conservatism to reduce the number of impacts, at least during practices, and restrict contact during the week.
