How to use selloff in a sentence?
Today's selloff is normal after the two enormous upward days that we had, a lot of investors are rebalancing their portfolios before going into the weekend and the dips that we saw earlier in the week were good buy opportunities.
This is hardly a big selloff but we are having trouble breaking through (to new highs on the S&P) because of a lack of consistently good earnings and economic data, one of the few positives is a weaker dollar but it is hard to see a reason for that to continue; rates are being lowered around the world and expected to rise here (in the United States), there's no clear path to a lower dollar.
Overall I think markets are still skewed to taking on risk, and I don’t think we’ve seen the final record high by any means in the U.S. stock market or in global equities, at the end of the day, (the selloff earlier this week) was just markets whipping around as the froth has blown off risk assets.
The CPI is bringing about a bit of selloff in the rates market.
The bigger issue... what, in my mind, is driving all this selloff is that markets are losing confidence in central banks' ability to act as an effective referee.
