  1. line

The boundary was originally the landmark, that which marked off one piece of territory from another. The bound is the limit, marked or unmarked. Now, however, the difference between the two words has come to be simply one of usage. As regards territory, we speak of the boundaries of a nation or of an estate; the bounds of a college, a ball-ground, etc. Bounds may be used for all within the limits, boundary for the limiting line only. Boundary looks to that which is without; bound only to that which is within. Hence we speak of the bounds, not the boundaries, of a subject, of the universe, etc.; we say the students were forbidden to go beyond the bounds. A barrier is something that bars ingress or egress. A barrier may be a boundary, as was the Great Wall of China. Bourn, or bourne, is a poetical expression for bound or boundary. A border is a strip of land along the boundary. Edge is a sharp terminal line, as where river or ocean meets the land. Limit is now used almost wholly in the figurative sense; as, the limit of discussion, of time, of jurisdiction. Line is a military term; as, within the lines, or through the lines, of an army. Compare BARRIER; END.

How to use line in a sentence?

  1. Chancellor Angela Merkel:

There's no drawing a line under the history, we can see that in the Greece debate and in other European countries. We Germans have a special responsibility to be alert, sensitive and aware of what we did during the Nazi era and about lasting damage caused in other countries. I've got tremendous sympathy for that.

  2. Peter Brown:

He is the candidate of the Democratic left, against his own party’s bosses and their prized presidential candidate, Secretary Hillary Clinton, sanders has seized the momentum by offering a message more in line with disproportionately liberal primary and caucus voters.

  3. Henry Rome:

(It) is an opportunity for Raisi to try to draw a line under the past five months of domestic unrest and project a sense of normalcy at home and abroad.

  4. Russ Vought:

Congressman Good's bill is the next key line of attack that both Washington and the states must take in the fight against state-sanctioned racism, teaching our children that they are less-than because of their skin color is indoctrination and a classic civil rights violation.

  5. Roy Jones:

Mike Tyson said Thursday in an online press conference. Im coming to fight, and I hope hes coming to fight, and thats all you need to know. Promoters of the pay-per-view spectacle announced that Los Angeles Staples Center will be the site of the 54-year-old Tysons return to boxing on Nov. 28 for an eight-round main event against the 51-year-old Jones. Tysons last official bout was in June 2005, and the former undisputed heavyweight champion hasnt held a title since 1996. Roy Jones fought steadily through Roy Jones 40s, long after Roy Jones super middleweight and light heavyweight title reigns had ended, with his most recent bout in February 2018. Roy Jones also laughs at the idea that any time spent inside a boxing ring with Mike Tyson could ever be a mere exhibition, even though California commission officials have made it clear that Mike Tyson and Roy Jones shouldnt be attempting to seriously hurt each other during a fight with two-minute rounds. Officials say they plan to stop the bout if either fighter is cut or significantly injured. Who goes in the ring with the great, legendary Mike Tyson and thinks its an exhibition ? twelve-ounce gloves ? No headgear ? Really ? This is an exhibition ? Come on, bruh. Be real. In short, Mike Tyson and Roy Jones said everything one might expect from two cagey veterans of the fight game to promote real sporting interest in this endeavor, which came to life after the online world saw footage of Mike Tyson looking impressive while sparring earlier this year. Roy Jones eagerly accepted the opportunity for Mike Tyson highest-profile fight in a decade. Mike Tyson and Roy Jones believe theyll be able to put on a show worthy of their legends. Theyre also eager to be the latest in the growing line of athletes competing at elite levels into their 40s and beyond with improvements in sports science, nutrition and training. When I came along, at 32 years old, you were considered an old guy.
